Coate Water Park (Thursday 27th July 2023)

When I set out this morning I had not decided where I was going on to after a couple of errands, but Buzz chose a route we had travelled once before for me and brought me to Coate Water Park, just after one o'clock.

This time I chose the anti-clockwise circuit around the lake and stopped along the way for a picnic lunch. I saw this pair of great crested grebes early on as well as the black swan, a pair of cormorants, a magpie, tufted ducks and their chicks, canada geese, swans, cygnets and gulls but no herons this time. I got back to the car two hours or more later.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Sinéad O'Connor - Troy (recorded April 1987, London)
Whilst I was wondering yesterday which recording from Sinéad O'Connor's vast back catalogue to choose for LOTD I'd decided not to pick the obvious Nothing Compares 2 U because it will have been widely chosen elsewhere and she was never a one trick pony, in fact she had many sides. I eventually chose Fire On Babylon (see yesterday) but had nearly chosen her composition Troy, audaciously her very first single, a quite remarkable and lengthy record that was later included on her debut album The Lion And The Cobra. Listening to 6 Music as I drove back from Coate I heard it played in tribute to her by Craig Charles, who said it was his favourite of hers, giving me a reason for including it today.
