Shot at Dawn

A blipmeet at the National Memorial Arboretum today with Hildasrose and Rob, Chrispybox and Mrs C, LooseCanon, and StevenG and Gill, and Landscape Artist
What a wonderful place it is. The most moving monument was this one portraying those who were Shot at Dawn during WW1 for “cowardice”  “desertion” “disobeying orders” symptoms of PTSD unrecognised at the time, and many who were under age when they joined up and should never have even been there. There is a post with a name tag for each one, some with no age given as it wasn’t known,   for all of those who suffered this fate. The item hung around the neck was a target for the firing squad.
They were only officially pardoned in 2006.

The collage shows the slot where the sun shines through on armistice day, a memorial to the navy, and the Bastion Wall memorial to those killed in Afghanistan , including some comrades of our son.
Our son returned safely.
