Melk Abbey

Another early start to the day as it included a visit to Melk Abbey, which was impressive to tour with its 497 rooms - we visited only a few, and 1365 windows.  We weren't allowed to take photographs inside the abbey, but you can see it from afar in the extra.
Originally gifted by Leopold II to Benedictine monks in 1089, it suffered from fires and invasion by by the Turks in the 17th Century and the building today is what remains after a further fire in 1975 and a 26 year restoration.
The extra is a shot of our very flamboyant cruise organiser. He was a star and the daily briefings were delivered in a half joking, wholly serious manner of what would happen if you didn't comply with instructions regarding timings of activities.
