Dawn walk

Got up at the unearthly hour of 4am to meet an old friend in Sawmill carpark for a dawn walk through Raincliffe woods, near Scarborough. This is one of Europe's ancient woodlands, dating back to 1286 if this website is to be believed. It's one of the most atmospheric and magical of natural places. We originally intended to do it on Midsummer Day (Monday) but on Sunday evening we postponed it a couple of days because it looked like it was going to be cold and wet. It was mild and dry this morning. The walk was inadvertently enhanced by neither of us carrying any form of timepiece so we had no idea how long we'd been walking by the time we got back to the carpark two hours later.
