Toward Bow Head

My first trip to any of the north isles this year. Shapinsay isn't included in that description. I would have visited earlier but there has been an unprecedented number of ferry cancellations due to high winds in January and February. Even if not cancelled I can't risk going over and not getting back, and cycling in high wind isn't that great either. I saw my first 'white=winged' gull of the winter/spring- an Iceland gull. I had an expert on hand, fortunately, because I'd only seen it briefly and got a shot of what I thought a glaucous gull, but a resident birder kept me right. Not a lot of birds about- it's too early for the spring migrants to arrive.
