Life in Sunny Dubai

The Pub

(22/3/24)

Today is G's Dad's birthday. I'm not sure how old he would have been. After trying unsuccessfully to find somewhere in Dubai that do a Ploughman's (a meal her Dad liked), she opted to dine at The Pub. Having first opened its doors in 1975, it's incredible that today was the first time that I have set foot in this institution!

It is a typical English pub with dark wood panels and period posters (I spotted a Bovril one). In the last few decades, large TV screens have been added so people can watch PL games etc. I had my back to the main screen, but G enjoyed watching a documentary on how VAR works.

G had Fish and Chips, and I tried the Butter Chicken. I'm glad I didn't go for the steak and ale pie as I found out later (after letting the waiter know that my meal was warm, not hot), that the food comes from a faraway kitchen. G's fish came from the Fish Market (a restaurant) nearby as the cod had to be replaced by a locally sourced fish (hammour). So, whilst I don't mind returning to The Pub, I'll have to be more careful with what I choose. A kind waitress gave us new bar mats to bring home. They had "since 1975" printed on them. :))

We came home right away, not lingering but enjoying walking past the gardens on the Creek. Because of Ramadan, more families are out in the evenings enjoying the weather.

The day in the office was good too. :)
