Family gathering
Sue planned a small family gathering for fourteen people, but some of them were ill, some were working, and some thought the gathering was happening tomorrow, so it ended up being just the four of us. In the photo is her son Shawn, her sister Peggy, and of course Sue.
I have been devouring the work of Hannah Arendt for the past month or so, and our library had a DVD of Margarethe von Trotta's brilliant film, Hannah Arendt. Peggy had to leave, but Sue, Shawn, and I had a wonderful afternoon watching the film and then talking about evil, about goodness, and about the combined genius of von Trotta and Barbara Sukowa, the actress who played Arendt. The film was made in 2012, and Sukowa smoked constantly through it, so we fear for Sukowa's lungs, but what a great actress she is! Sue and I are going to watch it again.
