Preserving Black history
Today and tomorrow Don’t Shoot Portland, as part of its tenth year anniversary, is offering a workshop on Archiving Black Lives. Their announcement reads, in part, “It’s crucial for us to document our movement on our terms. As activists, it is always time to control the narrative. Join us this weekend at the University of Oregon’s White Stag Campus Library for two days of free workshops and panel discussions. Memory Work for Black Lives will center the important intersection of archiving and community activism.”
Teressa used some of my photos on posters showing archival material, and City Archivists presented the workshop.
“I am saying that a journey is called that because you cannot know what you will discover on the journey, what you will do with what you find, or what you find will do to you.”
― James Baldwin, I Am Not Your Negro.
