Beneath Biscay

Cerney

After yesterday's celebration of mum's arrival at 95 and of my departure from the 9 to 5, today I took mum to Cerney House Gardens.

Although located in the grounds of a house that was built in the seventeenth century, the gardens are relatively recent, started in the 1980s.

We enjoyed the gardens, and the tea and shortbread from its 'serve yourself if no one's around' café.

The day was only slightly marred by my running over mum's walking stick. She had left outside the car when we departed the gardens, and later on discovering that she had mislaid her hat.

Afterwards had lunch at the Bathurst Arms opposite.

Despite the losses, an pleasant final day of my short visit back to the UK.

p.s. Come to think of it, I took part as a volunteer on an archeological dig nearby in the 1980s. Amazing to think that the gardens were being started at the same time.
