Earthenware

Mostly I use stoneware clay these days, the alchemy of the less predictable glazes appeals and excites.  Stoneware is fired to a higher temperature.  Stronger and with very low porosity, it's ideal for utility items.  Earthenware glazes offer a wide range of colours which can be used like paint and they give more certainty in the fired results.   When Lovetrees was here we used earthenware, the pieces we made were bisque fired last week, the two I made feature above along with the little pot I threw a couple of weeks ago.  I did most of the glazing yesterday, finishing them off after walking the dogs tonight.

A long day in the railway shop.  Quite busy at times but in the slack moments I priced up almost 400 bags of traditional sweets, a very popular purchase.  A quiet night in making photo cards ahead, listening to Radio 4.  I highly recommend Antony Gormley whose 'This Cultural Life' was both fascinating and philosophically very thoughtful too.
