Trieste

First stop proper on our Trip.

But before that we woke up in Maestre , where many people stay to avoid the high prices of Venice. Personally I would want to experience the wi see that is Venice but if you want a fabulous little hotel or rather ‘Lodge’ as the owners emphasised to me a couple of time, this is perfect. It’s in a quiet street, exceptionally clean, our room had a large balcony to sit in, and the Kenyan owners are just so nice and helpful. Breakfast was very good too. The big train station is close by taking you anywhere!

We arrived for our train about midday but we should have been there earlier (not my booking!) lol. We got in the one 40 mins later which took longer but it was fine.

Our apartment in Trieste is 10 mins walk from the station. And what a beautiful apartment very best of everything and even the shower is high tech with the ability to change the lighting to different colours!

We had a walk to the castle climbing lots and lots of steps but what a fab view of the hills and the sea.

Walked to the old town where this pic was taken, looked for a place to eat and settled on a place where you get a platter of meats (quite Austrian). I enjoyed the potatoes which were like our stovies but only liked one of the meats. It wasn’t wasted as I travel with a human dustbin. Then we had apple strudel and it was tasty.

Really tired so walked back to apartment just as the heavens opened!

First full day tomorrow in Trieste.
