The Visitor…..

Most years we are honored to be visited by a rather rare, special New Zealand bird. It is a Kotuku, aka a White Heron which takes up temporary residence in sections of the Taylor River for a few weeks of each year. Also known as the Eastern Great Egret or Ardea alba, it is a beautiful, special bird. It’s been hanging around for a few days now and I have photographed it from the opposite bank of the river. I saw it catch and eat a fish, take off in flight in a flurry of feathers. Such a lovely thing to see early in the morning.
