Sgwarnog: In the Field

Silver

The rapid transition from months of rain to a warm and mainly sunny week makes it feel like we’ve skipped a season.

This not only gives me more butterflies to record, but moths are also starting to appear in the undergrowth. I saw my first Brown Silver-line on Monday, and today it was the turn of this Silver-Y to have a “first of the year” moment. Silver-Ys are a common migrant moth from continental Europe, and their arrival usually means there is warm air from the south. I saw this one on Monument Moor during my lunchtime walk from work.
