A beautiful day
that starts with traffic snarls and
endless detour lanes

~carliewired

I was up and off to the south shore at 6:30. There is a fabulous day rising.

I made note of how much more traffic there is now in the early morning. We have so many routes in the city that are choked with construction that people must be finding it difficult to get to work.

I took the turn off the end of the bridge for Mission Flats. Usually this becomes a quiet route but not this morning. I had traffic close behind me. So, close, that I could not stop or pull over to catch a lovely doe crossing the road.

I drove to the end of the road with my eyes peeled for eagles. But none were to be found. I stopped at the edge to get a panorama of the delta and the Thompson River looking north.

At the turnaround point I found the osprey on their nest. Wish I could get closer but they are within a secured area. Birds were flitting in and around the underbrush. I caught one with a mouth full of nesting material. A pair of ducks had settled down into the dust in the turnaround. One gave me an indignant look, then the pair flew off to the other side of the road.

As I headed back to the bridge I got a shot of my mountains looking across the river and Rabbit Island. I see that the river is rising. With more warm temperatures coming, we'll see that more significantly and soon. I'm hoping that might bring back the eagles.

I'm home today and will catch up on all I missed yesterday.
