The old barn

This huge old barn dates back to the 1600s.  In 1980 there was a fire at one end and slowly the building has declined.  The farmer who owns it was not in a position to restore it so he asked the council to help - no!  He asked if he could put a corrugated iron roof over it to protect the remaining thatch and the old wooden beams- no, it's an historical building and that would affect the integrity of it.  He applied to several other organisations for help - no.  And so the building sits weakening with each storm, it seems it is better to have a ruin than a building with a corrugated iron roof.  This seems to be the story with many old buildings in this country.
