Parade Day

The St Johns Parade was better than I’d expected, though I think it’s always better on an election year, with every local candidate marching or riding in a cool car.  We watched, and cheered Rose Festival Princesses, each perched on the back seat of a classy car from the MG Club, a few glitzy horses, vintage cars, the Rose Festival Royalty in their cream colored wool suits and white shoes, and a whole, whole bunch of Little League teams from North Portland. We cheered our neighbor, Laura Streib, City Commissioner candidate, who rode her bike, flanked by family and supporters, and, from the top of a big fire truck, these girls with big water guns aimed streams of water at us, to the delight of everyone. And then there were the bands: beginning with our own local Roosevelt High School, several from neighboring communities and contingents of marching/dancing girls. The only thing missing were dogs dressed up riding in baby buggies. We ran into neighbors right away and stood with them, leaning against one of the food carts in the shade, primo spot!
The Extra is of Kendallishere's grandaughter on saxophone with the Whitford Middle School. Way to go, Bella! I didn't run into Kendall or Sue, but it was a big crowd watching a grand parade!
