The Gatekeeper

We wandered around the neighborhood known as the Gorbals after the orienteering today. Previously very overpopulatedbin 1930s, now redeveloped. 

The Gatekeeper is the product of Dan Dubovitz and Matt Baker,  known as Heisenberg. Comprising three parts – a suspended sculpture (cast in bronze), a framed picture (illuminated at night) and a small crypt in the foundations underneath the photograph.

The Gatekeeper symbolises the notion of Gorbals as a gateway for Irish, Jewish and Asian immigrant communities over the centuries. Beneath the whole structure lies a crypt containing burned remains of objects donated by members of the Gorbals community.
