curns' corner

The Great

I was out the door just after 6pm to take a train into Waterloo, and then a surprisingly quiet northern line train up to Mornington Crescent. When I got out of the station, it was also relatively quiet, which got me wondering if Mondays in central London are in any way busy. I walked around the corner to a restaurant called Alexander The Great, where I was meeting PY, Phil and Wei for dinner. I was the first one there, debating whether or not I should go in, but eventually, I decided sitting in the warm restaurant was better than standing in the cold of Camden. I thought Phil had booked the table and was surprised when the staff said they could not find the booking. They questioned if I was in the restaurant. But I sat down and waited.

Wei was the 1st to arrive, so we chatted before the others turned up. PY & I ordered the house mezze, which sounded like the perfect dinner for the evening. It was absolutely delicious, but there was an enormous amount of food, and - as I had been grazing during the day - I really struggled after the first set of dips and bread had been delivered and partially consumed. The fish and meat plates which came next really overfed me. PY was a little frustrated with me until I pointed out that the restaurant did takeaway, and they would box it up, and we could take it home. It turned out that Phil and Wei were similarly overfed and also boxed up some food. That will do very nicely one evening while PY is in Lyon later in the week.
