If you can't beat them...

Two-banded Longhorn Beetle (Rhagium bifasciatum)

We had a run out in the afternoon as Clickychick wanted to photograph something beginning with Q for her alphabet challenge.  While she was shooting her Q I was considering what to blip.  She drew my attention to this fine fellow sitting on a post beside her.

I am by no means a "bugologist" and I think there are about 60+ species in the UK.  As you come north the number of species reduces only 28 have been identified in Scotland..  So two-banded is my attempt at identification.  If you know better please tell me.

Longhorn beetles are vitally important in the environment.  Their grubs are one of the main factors in breaking wood/twings/stumps etc down.  sadly the human desire to "tidy up" the environment means sources of dead wood are massively reduced.
