The Maltese Falcon

It cost more than $150m to build and was voted by the yacht industry the finest sailing vessel in the world. This is The Maltese Falcon parked on the quayside at Porto Cervo in Sardinia. It is 289 ft long and each of its three masts weighs 35 tons. It was built by Perini Navi for Tom Perkins who sold it it in 2009 at a knock down price, reported to be around $90m to Elena Ambrosiadou, chief executive of IKOS, a Cyprus-based Hedge Fund. This week it's competing in the Perini Navi Cup.
