Through the castle garden

We swapped our day around abit today as 'Cawdor Chronicle' told us about an open day at the Castle and it sounded like a nice day out. So we started with a hearty Scottish Breakfast at The dairy at Daviot and watched people arriving for the Vintage Rally. We also treated ourselves to some cheese scones and cakes.

We spotted Cawdor chronicles with a spade and bulbs in their hands as we drove through Cawdor village. They had been planting bulbs throughout the village. I'm looking forward to the Spring when all their hard work and the sweat of others begin to show. It will look very colourful, it's such a pretty area and very peaceful. After a quick chat we popped up to the Castle. I spotted a gilet in the front of the Highland wool shop and went to have a look . 'Oh do come in and have a look' we heard from a lady in front of us. 'If you like gilets there's some lovely fur ones over there :)' 'Thank you' I said actually thinking that the price tag might be a bit beyond my limits. The lady departed. 'she's a good sales women' my husband remarked to the very smart man behind the counter . 'Oh that's the Dowager Countess of Cawdor. The owner of the castle ! '

We walked around the gardens listening to the children singing and playing recorders and admiring the plants that were still blooming. I really liked the Autumn Crocus at the far end of the garden. They were covered in bees and through out the garden dragonflies and butterflies were flying by.
There is always a good atmosphere at the castle, maybe it's because it's a home but it is lovely.
