An Artist's Life

Moving Clay

Let's see what this clay holds. Looks like a Northern Cheyenne this time.

I started this one awhile back and have a bit more research to do before the full figure emerges with regalia and all his accoutrements. The proper clothing for the date I have chosen has to agree with the dates of various hair styles, head-wear, weapons, tools, moccasins, bead and/or quill patterns. Putting it all together is all part of the process once I establish the tribe...the facial and forensic features of that particular nation, etc.. One has to be a bit anthropologist, historian, forensic sculptor, museum and tribal sleuth if you're going to present historical studies of indigenous peoples. I quite enjoy every aspect of it.
