Bloomsday must be in my blood somehow. Our day in Rovinj involved a peregrination around town, taking in a chemist shop, a stop for a drink, a wander round town at night, watching young folk at the waterfront, and cheese. But no prostitutes, pork kidneys, funerals, or red wine and gorgonzola.

Rovinj has a literary connection as well. Jules Verne's novel, Mathias Sandorf, involves its eponymous hero escaping to Rovinj from his imprisonment in Pazin Castle. Verne never came to the area himself, but produced a fairly good picture of the local area in the novel, it seems. Local tourist industry tries to make the most of it, anyway.
