Doorway, Belsize Park, London

From the French 'bel assis', meaning well positioned, this area of Camden is named after the manor house that once stood here.

The house was built in 1663 by Daniel O'Neill who became one of the richest men in England after Charles II gave him lots of jobs in the royal court that raised money, and he could keep for himself.

By 1808, the estate was split into nine leases and the houses were built that you see today, resulting in many roads of some of the finest Victorian mansions that exist.
