But whose truth?

This evening I passed a flurry of microphoned evangelists trying to protect the Oxford population’s after-lives. I ignored them but was a bit surprised when I came across a second group. I ignored them too until their microphone started blasting to the small crowd that marriage is between a man and a woman and that homosexuality is evil. Not in my street it isn’t, so I went up to the preacher and challenged him somewhat louder than the already gently heckling crowd. I didn’t follow his logic but within a very short time I was told that my morality was the same as Hitler’s (probably the fastest I’ve ever experienced Godwin’s law kicking in), though he seemed not to hear me when I pointed out what Hitler did to gay people. When I spotted two police officers nearby I complained about a breach of the peace and incitement to hatred and the police said they were just waiting for the attack on homosexuality to be repeated then they’d move them on. Yay modern police! But by then there were plenty of people saying that free speech is fine but hatred is not, so they were asked to pack up anyway.

Note my adversary getting his phone camera ready to retaliate for me taking his photo. I’d love to know what he’ll do with it.

In the midst of the drama, I spotted this silent protest, which I thought was impressively more sophisticated than mine.
