Spindle fruits
Today was a big change from yesterday. The temperature dropped almost 40ºF yesterday afternoon in a couple of hours and today is cold and windy. Most of the trees have lost their colour but there are a few bright spots like these spindle berries. The cultivars of Euonymus don't seem to have these four-part fruits, which is strange. The leaves, however, turn to a brilliant red. Ours is just turning and in a couple of days, I should get a great shot of that. We have a little hedge of it round the propane tank.
Looks like the end of summer at last. We have had a super fall and for the first time for a very long time, I think we are ready for winter......... blade on the tractor ready for snow, garden cleared of dead stuff (I had help with this) and plenty of propane. Next stop Thanksgiving, but it is also time to think of making the Christmas cake. Who says they don't know what they will do in retirement?!
