policing as it may have been

I have spent a couple of days in the Trossachs on the trail of some data to do with the National Park (and discovering that the NP is not entirely on some of the local business people's Christmas Card list!) Yesterday's nice sheep dog blip came from Abefoyle, today's was caught in Balloch - just at the foot of Loch Lomond.

This charming little cottage, now a B and B, obviously in an earlier incarnation housed the village policeman. It's tempting to hark back to days when.... It was probably quite nice to live in a community and in a time when the policing needs could be met by Joe, who would pull on his trousers and turn out of bed in order to have a word with a local who had one pint too many.

Of course, bad things happened then as they happen now. And the police service has developed all the techniques and technology in parallel with the society it serves. But it is charming to see this reminder of less complicated days.
