Heritage

Most of our little house was built about 400 years ago.

Originally it had one room downstairs and one room upstairs. We've still go the big open fireplace and the bread oven.

There was no running water - it was pumped from the well in the garden and heated over the flames. If the well ran dry in the summer then somebody had to fetch water from the river across the fields.

The house is not much bigger today, eventually a small kitchen and bathroom was built on to the house and the original wooden door step is still in place between the very old and the not quite so old part of the house.

It's worn and shiny through age and use - you can see the hand made nails still in place - I like to imagine all of the children that have stood on the step and polished it by rubbing their feet back and forwards, as they still do today
