Junk Tree

Is it a real tree? Or is it a piece modern art?
Well, it’s a contemporary piece of sculpture made from discarded bits of wood,  legs of broken chairs and tables and detritus from skips.

We are in whisky country, Glenfiddich to be exact near Duff Town, in the Scottish Highlands, having decide on the spur of the moment that we should ” go north” for a few days before winter sets in and everything closes.

Now Glenfiddich is famous in the art world, apart for its whisky, for its international artist residencies which it hosts throughput the summer.
And this junk tree is the result of one such residency.

A visit to the Scottish Highlands is always full of the unexpected. Everywhere we have been today folk have reported a booming tourist trade with foreign visitors. Britain has become the bargain basement for cheap holidays.

We are staying in a bed and breakfast in Duff Town and they have been fully booked all summer. We are only their third UK guest this year- Scandinavians, Germans and Japanese are their main customers.
