Cataracts and yoga

The nurse wheeled the chair alongside the operating table.
 I hopped on.

“That’s the fastest I have seen in years,” she said.

“ It’s the yoga,” I said settling down for my second cataract operation. in the Golden Jubilee hospital, Glasgow.

Unfortunately the physical flexibility of my yoga practise did not extend to my breathing.

I was uptight. Stressed out.

Ten minutes into the operation and it has to be halted while I receive a booster of a painkilling injection in the eye.

The second cataract is always worse than the first because you know what’s coming.

Afterwards the nurse said. “Aren’t you glad you haven’t got three eyes?”

So, back home and resting. Big time.

As for the Golden Jubilee hospital, this is a state of the art hospital. If only  all NHS hospitals were of the same standard.
