Pirates Cave
It is advertised as a pirate’s cave but in truth its old mine workings high up on a hill north of Staveley. Yes, I was looking for treasure. A geocaching mystery led us there including collecting a clue on an island in the River Kent. What an exciting Saturday afternoon we had...
We finally got to within 150m of the cache, stood at a gate and gazed in the direction of the compass. That view is in extras. Our final destination was at the top of the hill just to the right of the tree growing out of the cliff. There is this tunnel entrance and at the end of the tunnel is pirates treasure. Well actually a very large geocache and some gold coins- also in extras.
I was proud of my rock climbing, Mr P didn’t think I would make it. We got back to Staveley just in time to pick up our pre booked fish and chips from the Jolly Fryer in Burnside. They've installed a plastic screen which must make it very hot inside the chippy with all the frying. And it's cash only- rare these days.
