Shiny Beacon

A beacon of hope, a bevy of machines and monitors, jolly physiotherapists, electrodes, tethers and squeaking sneakers. And a few moany patients thrown in for good measure. Bless them, every one. Their battles seem more difficult than mine.

Learned today that when someone collapses in a public place, my duty is to call 911 (knew that) and then proceed to apply, short, firm bursts of pressure where their ribs come together to keep their heart alive till medics arrive (knew that) What I didn’t know is that it should be done to the exact beat of the BeeGees’ “Staying Alive”. When I asked what to do if another song was playing, a few snorts and giggles and some rolling eyes was noticed. I thought it was a legit question.
