This Isn't the Jedi Knight You're Looking For
May the Force be with you!
In which T. Tiger takes up the lightsaber. . . .
In the midst of winter, my husband and I sometimes pick a big, sprawling movie series and watch the whole thing. An Indiana Jones set will do. Or Lord of the Rings. Or Star Trek. Or Hitchcock. Or James Bond. The series we picked to amuse us right now is Star Wars. Yes, we have all nine movies on DVD, and by the end of this day, we'd finished two of them.
How did this Blip happen? Well, we have a very impressionable Tiger in the house, and there was nothing he wanted more than to become a Jedi Knight, like his hero Yoda. Yoda is a hero of small stature but big heart and T. Tiger really resonates with that. Do . . . or do not. There is no try.
So . . . you think YOU have had a rough day. I had to find/make a lightsaber for a very small, very demanding TIGER on this day. We searched the house for applicable items: a lighted pen, glow sticks, a kaleidoscope part, a stick, green markers.
For the life of me, I could not find the light-up magic wand I was gifted as one of the key members of the Mitchell Building Course Implementation Team oh so many years ago. (Just wave that magic wand, girl; it'll fix ALL the problems!) Mitchell Building was torn down about 20 years ago; the magic wand apparently went AWOL in solidarity, and I am no longer a Course Implementation Queen. But I digress.
In the end, we went with the kaleidoscope part, a clear plastic tube full of sparkly stuff, with a green-painted stick behind it. And let me insert here . . . believe you me, I've done my share of ridiculous things in my day, photographically speaking. Was this as technically complex and artistically challenging as drawing runes on mushrooms? Well, no.
T. Tiger said that Lil RBG should be whoever she wants to be: Leia, or Padme, or Rey, or what-not. We dressed her in a white outfit, and in a few shots, T. Tiger even had a Padawan learner, his good pal Wilson!
By the end of the shoot, Ruth, I mean . . . "Leia," looked a bit grumpy. But wouldn't you be too, if somebody had STAPLED your dress onto your body? I mean, we all remember that time they sewed Marilyn Monroe into her dress. But . . . STAPLES?
And of course, the Crittergators had to participate in the shoot, and I heard little whispered remarks:
"I love you!" . . . "I know!"
"Nerf-herder!"
"Size matters not!"
"Laugh it up, Fuzzball!"
"Into the garbage shoot, Fly-Boy!"
George Lucas has claimed the tag of "Buddhist Methodist," and that is a thing I can really resonate with, as I tend to trend in that direction myself. (*looks in mirror* How about Buddhist Pantheist Methodist? Hmm?)
Anyway, regardless of what beliefs you personally hold (or don't), the Tiger has most certainly chosen a worthy hero. Let's finish with a few favorite Yoda quotes, now, shall we? And then we'll leave this crew to their "Jedi business."
To be a Jedi is to face the truth, and choose. Give off light, or darkness, Padawan. Be a candle. Or the night. - Yoda.
For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. - Yoda
Luminous beings are we. Isn't that just gorgeous.
I hope you have enjoyed this silly fun philosophical Blip. The soundtrack song has to be this one: Weird Al Yankovic, with Yoda.
Bonus: possibly related . . . Tabi-Wan Kenobi. :-)
