Life through my eyes

By Amanda_T

Later than planned!

I hadn't meant to be so late posting this. It explains why Mr T had my Blip today as he took this so I could use it on my Blip.

It's been fairly busy today. I had a chat with a person from Carers UK. Earlier this year I was part of a focus group that designed a leaflet on virtual wards for unpaid carers. The leaflet has now been finished and is being rolled out to NHS England via an expert panel tomorrow. Slightly dauntingly I will be one of the three experts on the panel. EEKK!!

As you all know I am passionate about raising the awareness of carers. Carers UK today published a report on valuing carers using the 2021 census data. The figures are quite staggering, and unpaid care saves the tax payer more than the total funding given to the NHS.

The figures mean that in 2021, unpaid carers in England and Wales saved the public purse enormous sums every week, day, and hour:»  £3.1 billion per week
»  £445 million per day
»  £18.6 million per hour

My guitar lesson postponed from Monday to today was postponed to Friday so I joined the Draw Brighton life drawing. Some very challenging foreshortening poses but really good fun.

Then the district nurse arrived which at first I wasn't sure if was for the injection that should have been done on Sunday or the catheter change that was due tomorrow. As we were starting to get some blocking issues she changed it while she was here. I knew she was one of the better nurses so it made a lot of sense than running the lottery tomorrow of if and who would arrive.

Ironically that then made me late joining the Sirona Members Group! I couldn't resist saying it was the DN that had made me late! I offered to help with two activities that have been sticking points for us, frailty assessments and catheter management!

Then an unexpected Amazon delivery. Thank you Mr and Mrs HCB. It was very welcome and a kind thought. She's sitting on a shelf in the sitting room where she can watch the sunrise. I have little reminders in most rooms so wherever I am I can chat to Mum. Her mug still hangs up in the kitchen with the sweets inside she asked me to save. She said she would be back for coffee but she was never able to.

My sister and I have started checking in on each other which is nice. I think we share some feelings about things at the moment. I did get a message from my father to tell me he was fine, having a nice few days away, and even though I hadn't called him he was fine.

Meditation and a bit of guitar practice, now try and catch up on Blips!
