A quiet day at home!

It seems as if Oban has found fame at last! 'Argyll tourist town cut off'!

All the main roads out of Oban have been closed due to floods, landslides or damaged bridges - ten people had to be airlifted by helicopter as their cars were trapped between landslides. The railway is closed too as many of the tracks are flooded. So glad we came home on Friday or we'd still have been trapped somewhere en route!

After a dull, drizzly morning I popped outside several times and when the rain had stopped for a while we decided to go for a quick walk around the local roads. We'd just got to the bottom of the drive when the rain began again! Back to the house, off with the waterproofs, then the rain stopped. Too bad - no walk today! Then to add insult to injury we had a thunderstorm which sent the cats hiding under the table!

I went out again to take a picture of one of my favourite gesneriads - Seemannia nematanthodes 'Evita', my Blip today. Along with a few others it's out in the cold greenhouse at the moment, but as it's just begun to flower I'd better bring them indoors.

We may be stuck at home, but others are not. Richard, the Logan Curator, is on his way to Vietnam today, and Mrs M’s brother has just sent a picture from Kathmandu, where he’s just arrived!
