Swiss trains
Gavin had originally booked a 6.30am flight to Zurich but realising we were a bit tired for such an early start he changed it to the later flight of 9.20am, so we did not have to get up too early. We left home by 7am and luckily Heathrow Airport is not far from home so we got there in good time.
I was annoyed as I always get an acai bowl from Pret for breakfast when I fly but they have discontinued it and had no dairy free options at all, which is strange as for years they have offered these options. So vegans and those with dietary allergies just lose out. We went to the BA lounge instead where I managed to find oats porridge made with water instead of milk - I can't face bacon and eggs so early in the morning.
We were at our departure gate A20 and were queuing to board, standing and waiting for ages when they announced that due to a problem with the bridge we had to move to gate A8 which was right on the other side of the terminal. We all walked across the building and again were queuing and waiting when they announced that, actually we had to go back and board at gate A20. So annoying! Everyone including BA staff were grumbling as we walked all the way back again. There was another problem with the walkway being too icy which necessitated the move back again. We finally took off an hour and half later. By the time we landed we already had an email from BA apologising for the delay.
I was surprised to see the airport and Zurich covered in snow, the trees were all white and looking beautiful. Of course despite the airport being full of snow they had no issue with planes landing or taking off. We hired a car and drove up to the mountains and the journey was so scenic and beautiful - we stopped just outside Zurich on the side of the road so I could take some photos, as per the extra. As we approached Klosters we stopped and waited fro the train to come, when I took this photo.
It was so strange to check into a local hotel instead of going to our home. As it is a company weekend Gavin felt we should all stay together. We did go to our home to collect our ski clothes, skis, boots etc. We know the hotel well as have often eaten her ever the years, but it is the first time I have seen the rooms and they are incredible, beautifully furnished in the Swiss chalet style with much wood but also very modern.
Theoretically it is much colder than at home but feels much warmer, it must be something to do with the thin altitude and dry air. Tomorrow I am going skiing as the conditions are set to be perfect, although it is expected to be extremely cold up the mountain, so I am not sure how long I will last up there!
We are now going downstairs for a drink to meet up with everyone else before dinner.
