Summer has arrived at last on these sceptred isles. Even if it’s just for a day, I have felt warmth and sunshine and have had to remove two layers of clothing. Of course I am not equipped for the heat having brought no summer clothes in a too small case. I  hope it won’t be a problem-I’ll be surprised  if it lasts.

After the routine of the 8am swim, my Edinburgh visiting Selkie took me to Kirkwall via Dounby in a circuitous tour of the West Mainland. It was the route of many a cycle trip with HL back in the day and held many happy memories.
Kirkwall was the right amount of busy today but tomorrow there will be a huge cruise ship docking at 9am  that will spill thousands of passengers onto the streets. Sensible people avoid the town on such a day.

I spent the early afternoon catching up with a Selkie whom I haven’t seen so far on this trip and tonight I’m going to see the film Macbeth which is on in Kirkwall. I just hope I don’t fall asleep. It seems to be something I’m prone to do in a cinema when it’s warm and dark….. in bed at night not so much!
