Managed to get the probate form completed and phoned the Australian Tax office to sort out how to navigate their process too, then down to the French Institute to meet LM for lunch. Nice to know she’ll be moving to Edinburgh before too long and we happily talked holidays, gyms/exercise, RSE, choirs and student politics as we had our salads. I was surprised they didn’t have baguette bread but otherwise very tasty.
Home via print place to get various documents copied then I went down to the police station to get the copies certified, but having waited 20 minutes for someone to answer the bell and standing in a deserted reception I gave up! I’ll have to find someone else on the list of acceptable people to do the certification…a pain!
Home and rustled up some scones for Winsford arriving which we had with tea and chat before walking over (very chilly wind!) to meet the rest of Book Group (minus Arclight) for supper at Bento Ya. Good to see Hazelh after her illness earlier this week and to catch up with the others as I wasn’t at their last meet-up in March. Laura and Winsford both saying how much warmer it is in the north and west than here in chilly Edinburgh. I’d always thought that when I was retired I’d see weather forecasts like this week and just jump in the car and head to the sun…but I’d not bargained on a full diary!
We walked over to the Lyceum and settled in to see Muriel Spark’s Girls of Slender Means which we’d read at Book Group some years ago. Clever staging and, although some voices carried less well than others, I enjoyed it. Not surprising given my memory but although I recalled the mood of the book which they conveyed well, I realised I barely remembered any of the story…other than the climbing in and out of the bathroom window!
We walked home afterwards, again a bit chilly, and had some peppermint tea whilst we watched a bit of political news … it seems like there’s going to be an unopposed anointing of John Swinney as new First Minister.
