Stromness RNLI 200th Anniversary March Past

There was the usual daily swim in murky weather this morning, but there was no wind  and a large turnout of swimming belles. Thereafter it was an indolent day with much listening to political debate and lighter pastimes of reading and knitting until the massed piped bands from  Stromness, Kirkwall, Thurso, Wick and Kincardine in Canada marched right past my front door.
Had I read the flier properly about events I might have had the nous to get to the pier and hear and see the entertainment on offer from 1pm. As it was I followed on after the pipers and then got stuck in a jam of people trying to reach the pier head. So mobbed was it that I cut my losses and retreated but not before I had met IainatCreel and CMC and also the two Selkies that I hadn’t yet seen at the slip. So it was a result of sorts, but I’m sorry I missed the Orkney Rocks choir giving it laldy on the pier.
