A Day to Remember

Well, what an action packed day it has been! The day started with a 7:30am swim in a calm sea and if a little haar meant no wind then that was a plus. A quick shower and it was off for the 8:52 am bus to Kirkwall to take back a jumper I had bought in haste last week, buy flowers for my hostess this afternoon but more importantly meet the resting blipper, Poppy, for coffee. We found a booth at the Old Library where we caught up on  all our news. Hopefully it won’t be so long until we meet again - it’s been too long this time.

A bus back to Stromness and a quick bite to eat before I got a lift to one of the Selkie’s houses for afternoon tea. In Edinburgh afternoon tea might be a small sandwich, perhaps a pice of cake and a biscuit. In Stromness the table groaned with everything from Cullen Skink soup through quiches and savoury tarts to scones, sweet tarts and cream - all home made- no cheating with M&S ready made finger food. We city girls have much to learn.
The house itself sits high above Stromness with a 180° view of Hoy Sound.  It’s just a pity that today the mist spoiled the view.
Despite all the eating and drinking (forget afternoon tea, Prosecco was the drink of choice) we chatted non stop for over two hours and then 3 of us managed to walk home  unaided along country roads, only passed by 2 cars and a pram.

All this excitement has taken its toll , I’m in my pjs and it’s only 6 o’clock. The haar has lifted and it’s a beautiful evening but I’m going nowhere.
