This is the day

Elterwater cottage

One of the things I love about coming away to the Lake District is that I get to spend a lot of time practising my photography, with plenty of photogenic subjects all around me.

In the past couple of days since the wedding I’ve been scouring YouTube for instruction videos about back button focus, which is something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I gave it a go and really enjoyed it, and found it much easier to concentrate on all other aspects of taking a photograph once I’d set the focus using the back button, so both of my cameras have now been re-configured to use back button focus rather than using the half press of the shutter button.

I’ve also come across some other hints on YouTube for re-configuring various buttons. For example, I’ve programmed the SET button on my Canon cameras to act as a magnifier for quick checking of sharpness, and I’ve programmed the joystick to double up as a focus point selector, which automatically reverts to centre position when pressed down.

Smithers has bought himself an e-book and has been sitting on our balcony reading this afternoon, while I took my cameras for a test drive, and had lots of fun. This is one of the cottages in Elterwater village, which I had shot earlier as we walked back from having lunch at the Eltermere Inn.
