At the end of the meadows

This has become a favourite walk for Rusty, Jan and I. First down to our local lake, then follow the inlet stream up this valley. As soon as we reach that stream Rusty can be let off the leash and have a good run about. Sometimes sticks are thrown to encourage the running about.
At we follow the stream and the fields up this valley this is the final farmhouse. The valley and stream continue but in the forest from here.
So far into the forest this was never a very productive farm. The old guys in the village talk about when they were kids at school and how poor the kids from this farm were. It's never been a real farmhouse while we have lived here; it's always been a summer cottage. A few years ago it was sold and whoever owns it has been steadily making small improvements, but they have never been here when I've walked by.
One of the uses for the place is in the autumn, the hunting season. On the left of the building you can see a short construction - a hunting platform where the hunter can sit and wait for an elk to appear. On the right in the foreground of the picture is a small grey "rock". It's a piece of salt stone, one of several here. It attracts the elk and deer who come to lick the stones and get some salt. I guess this increases the chances of one wandering through here while the hunter is in their little tower!
On a nice day, like today, it's a lovely spot, and a good goal for a walk from home.
