Another Day

Striding out

We walked from base this morning, down through Illogan woods into Portreath and then a steep uphill climb to the coast path towards Porthtowan.  After a while we came to the inevitable down and steps up the other side (extra).  That’s a no from me and a no from him.  We didn’t quite have the energy to do that today, besides which we still had to reverse our steps.

The wild flowers really are spectacular.  I have never seen as many bluebells covering the cliff tops, along with seathrift and lots of little flowers I’m unfamiliar with.  I managed a quick shot of a Whitethroat, and saw several field pipits and stonechats as well as a couple of martins.

The slog back up through the woods about finished us off, but it was better than the coast path, and we did have an ice cream at the beach before the final ascent.

On our excursion we met a lovely elderly lady sitting on the edge of the cliff with her telephoto lens, birdwatching.  Unfortunately her battery ran out just as the whitethroat came into view.  We also came across a bit of an old soak out with his dog, lager in hand.  He was a bit of a character.

Packing to do as we have to be out by 9 a.m.  Next stop Woolacombe.
