Stroking a crocodile

During lockdown I began digitising all my photos, a job long overdue.  Imagine my surprise/horror when I came across this one taken in Gambia in 1991 where I appear to be stroking a crocodile!

This was not in a zoo but in Bijilo, where crocodiles swam in the stream, which ran through the town.
The young man with me is Ray, who married a former colleague of mine, Glasgow journalist Rosemary Long.

I still remember the sensational headline in the “fake “ newspaper (an old journalist practise) they gave her when she left her job as Woman’s Editor of The Evening Times:
“Scots granny marries black beach boy”.

Rosemary Long had gone on holiday to Gambia in search of adventure and one day Ray proposed to her while she was walking on the beach.
To his surprise she said “yes’. ( see extra photo).

The marriage lasted eight years and Rosemary wrote two books based on her experience.
